Florence, AL was once a thriving t-shirt capital, producing American grown cotton tees for decades. When the textiles industry shifted to international production, thousands of Alabama residents lost their jobs.

Enter Natalie Chanin,

Florence born designer, featured in Vogue, WWD, and NYC Fashion Week. She never anticipated Alabama Chanin becoming what it is today. But setting up shop in the heart of Florence, peaked the interest of the already skilled knitwear artisans in the area.

One knit machine

led to another, and Natalie now has a thriving knits business employing some of the very same workers who lost their jobs in the 90s. She took over “Building 14” as it was called by Tee-Jay’s T-shirt factory decades ago.

Terry Wylie,

who owned Tee-Jay’s with his father Paul, now sits in his father’s old office in the factory. A well of textiles and manufacturing knowledge, he lends his advice, and his friendship to Natalie.
